Project summary

The Mobidays project has been promoted and funded by the EC under the 6th Framework Programme (FP6) in order to analyse strengths and weaknesses of the main research and demonstration projects on sustainable mobility in Europe and worldwide. Furthermore, the project aims to investigate whether the results of some of the EC funded projects have found applications in the market and it offers opportunities for further dissemination of those results.
The project involves the Universities of four major European Capitals – distributed across the European Union from North to South and East to West. These Universities are responsible for the co-ordination and organisation of the conferences.
The Mobidays' Consortium, by the Inter-university Research Centre of Sustainable Development-Energy and Environment Group (CIRPS-GEA). The scientific coordinator is Prof. Fabio Orecchini, coordinator of CIRPS-GEA
The Consortium is composed by the partners listed here.

In order to explore, discuss and disseminate the results obtained and the improvements required in the field of sustainable surface transport, the project clearly identifies three main areas: socio-economic and environmental aspects, infrastructure and vehicles. Three conferences have also been organised within the framework of the project. A conference will be dedicated to the first topic, while the remaining two topics will be the subject of a second conference. These two conferences are mainly aimed at discussing EC-funded projects. The third and final conference will focus on major European and non-European demonstration projects on sustainable mobility, and therefore key players in the latter projects will also be involved. In this conference, the main outcomes of the previous two conferences will also be presented.
The “Socio-economic Barriers to Sustainable Transport” conference will be entirely organised by Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic.
The conference in London will be split into two sections: one about “Infrastructure” to facilitate sustainable mobility and the distribution of new, low environmental impact fuels, which will be organised by Imperial College London, United Kingdom. The second section will cover “Vehicles” and in particular zero and near-zero emission propulsion systems and components, and will be managed by the Instituto Superior Tecnico in Lisbon, Portugal.
CIRPS will be organising the final conference, which will focus on the final analysis reports of the previous two, topic-specific conferences, and on large-scale international demonstration projects in order to compare the strengths of and barriers to the various research programmes.
More details can be found in project conferences.

Invited speakers will include:

  • scientists from Universities, Research Centres and enterprises working on EU Projects;
  • researchers from non-EU countries (e. g.,U.S.A.,Japan) working on projects similar to those in Europe;
  • representatives of institutions involved in the realisation of sustainable mobility projects.
The target audience is expected to consist of scientists, institutions, the general public and the media.
Planned events are expected to promote discussion on sustainable transport, involving experts as well as key institutional players, the media and general public.
The conferences are only part of a range of tools that will be used to achieve the project objectives and write the final reports. Furthermore, the website has been created not only to deliver information about the projects, but also to collect information from the public (the users of the innovations) and from researchers (about the projects that were carried out). Through the use of the website, people involved in sustainable mobility projects can supply us with information about their own experiences.
On the one hand, the project provides an opportunity for experts to share knowledge arising from the projects they have been involved with. On the other hand, it provides an opportunity to strengthen the link between experts and society as a whole, who will ultimately play a crucial role in the transition towards a more sustainable transport system.
